Since 2024 we've held 2 of our own Civic Rankings Challenges and we're ready to restart in 2026-27. This program lets students compete by submitting their Civic Activities which get graded for "Civic Points". As you get more Civic Points you "Rank-Up" and at the end of the year you get awards based on your rank, with the highest ones being allowed to compete for our UCYF Scholarships. One of the key benefits of this is its ability to credit and categorize otherwise uncategorizable civic activities, like small volunteering efforts to peer mentoring or grassroots organizing. This makes it easier to showcase a full picture of your civic contributions, especially for college applications, scholarships, or leadership programs via our recognitions. 

The Ugarte Civic Youth Fellowship also works together with local South Central Los Angeles community organizations to help involve youth & students in their communities and help grow their civic responsibility. So far in 2026 we have cleaned 40+ blocks in South LA in our weekend clean-ups helping local residents and businesses by keeping local sidewalks clear and open. Using tools from South Central Clean-Up and getting disposal and food/drinks provided by Jose Ugarte's Campaign we've been able to do these community events every weekend along with 10-30 volunteers who go out to create a better South Central.

At the end of each fellowship cycle we make an "Awards Ceremony" to showcase our fellows and allow them to show off their achievements over the year to their family and friends. Here we publicly present everyone with the awards they were able to get over the school year, based on how many civic activities they did.  So far we have done two of these with great successes as 100+ fellows have been recognized through these after completing the Civic Rankings Challenge, becoming a fellow of the month, or being a part of our Green & Clean Project.
